Das Sofortvergnügen (THE INSTANT PLEASURE)
Cosimo Pori and Travis Amiel

at Life World

January 26 - 28 @ 7:30pm

February 2 - 4 @ 7:30pm

Das Sofortvergnugen (THE INSTANT PLEASURE) is a dance-theatre spectacle about insatiable desires, [in]convenience, [im]patience, and the need to get things now. The show re-contextualizes memes, idioms, and personal anecdotes while borrowing from a versatile artistic legacy that includes Pina Bausch, Steve Reich, The Simpsons, SpongeBob Squarepants, and Laurie Anderson. A fast paced and silly joy-scroll, THE INSTANT PLEASURE searches for an existence beyond the constant craving to want more through embracing contrasting ideas on queer existence in a capitalist society.

Cosimo Pori (they/them) is a dancer, poet, and performance artist who lives in Brooklyn. Cosimo integrates years of dance training (the outcome of being an overexcitable youngster) with the general aimless yearning endemic to queer people. Cosimo enjoys clowning around in the realm of interdisciplinary performance art. Their favorite food is ravioli and they believe in ghosts.

Travis Amiel is a multidisciplinary artist investigating queerness, pretentiousness, shame, convenience, and commons/cooperative-based organizing. Travis makes digital games and animations in addition to performances, paintings, podcasts, puppets, and produces online livestreams. Travis has been a Performance Project Fellow at University Settlement, and studied contemporary performance at Emerson College.

Das Sofortvergnügen has been developed at The Brick Theater through the ?!: New Works Festival, livestreamed with Zanni Productions thanks to a City Arts Corp Grant, and additional material was performed at the March 2022 SALON. A work-in-progress showing was a part of The Tank’s 2022 PrideFest.
